Facts about Screw Down Metal Roofs vs. Concealed Fastener Metal Roofs
Screw-down style metal roofing uses exposed screws that penetrate the metal, creating a hole in your roof- approximately 120 screws per square. Standing seam-concealed fastener style roofing uses screws, but they attach underneath the metal panels. The concealed fastener system is better because it allows your roof to expand and contract, and as the fasteners are completely covered from any weather elements.
Consider this: Not all metal roofs protect for a lifetime. There are screw-down type metal roofs with exposed fasteners. These types of roofs are NOT considered to be a lifetime roof because the fasteners will begin to back out due to expansion and contraction and eventually begin to rust.
